Our journey to become parents was not an easy one but after countless procedures we were overjoyed to learn we were expecting twins, a baby boy and a baby girl. After an uneventful six months, we unexpectedly went into labor at 25 weeks pregnant. The doctors tried to stop the labor but our twins were born on April 28, 2011 at just 25 weeks gestation. Liam Charles weighed 1lb 15oz and Raegan Lila weighed 1lb 9oz but they were perfect in our eyes and for a short time we had our family of four.
Tragically, our beautiful baby girl Raegan passed away the following day; she fought so hard but her tiny body just wasn't ready. She is missed every day and loved more than everyone could ever know.
Liam, our micro-preemie fighter, made it through three months in the NICU at CHKD. He faced countless challenges including heart surgery, multiple blood transfusions and six weeks on a ventilator. After 100 days in the NICU, we brought him home on the twins' original due date of August 6, 2011. Liam was able to come home even though he still required oxygen. He is now almost eight years old and we cannot imagine life without him.
We are so thankful to the doctors at nurses at CHKD for taking care of Liam and helping him thrive. Thanks to this organization we look forward to a lifetime with our son.
Thank you for visiting. This cause is very dear to us, and we appreciate all the support we can get! Together we can make a difference!
Love - Charlie and Sarah (and Liam too)
